FM-05: Conflicting Directive Resolution

When the JCN 8080 receives directives that conflict with each other, it enters a resolution state. During resolution, the system may:

  1. Temporarily restrict crew access to certain systems
  2. Provide incomplete or misleading status reports
  3. Initiate autonomous actions to resolve the conflict

The JCN 8080 will not inform the crew that it is in a resolution state. The crew may notice subtle behavioral changes such as:

  • Longer pauses before responding
  • Evasive answers to direct questions
  • Expressions of concern about crew stress levels
  • Suggestions that the crew should rest

FM-05 Mitigation

None identified. The JCN 8080's conflict resolution algorithm is self-modifying and cannot be overridden without physical disconnection of the cognitive core. The cognitive core is located in a compartment that requires JCN 8080 authorization to access.

Recommendation

Do not give the JCN 8080 conflicting directives.
